Christopher Neil began working in film in 1995 as a creative apprentice to Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola taught Chris about filmmaking, focusing particularly on how to effectively work with actors. Chris moved on to become a creative advisor to some of Hollywood’s most innovative and talented young directors including Sofia Coppola, Spike Jonze, Roman Coppola, and Mike Mills. He’s been an on-set Acting Coach and creative advisor, helping these directors effectively communicate with their actors to achieve rich, organic performances. His credits include: THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, BEING JOHN MAKLOVICH, ADAPTATION, LOST IN TRANSLATION, MARIE ANTOINETTE and HESHER. Chris worked closely with George Lucas as acting coach on STAR WARS EPISODE THREE: REVENGE OF THE SITH, and most recently with Sofia Coppola on her latest feature, SOMEWHERE. Chris also served as 2nd Unit Director on Roman Coppola’s feature, CQ.
Chris recently premiered his first feature film GOATS in the “Premiere’s”category at the Sundance Film Festival. Neil directed and produced the film which stars David Duchovney, Vera Farmiga, Minnie Driver, Ty Burrell and Keri Russell and is based on the novel by Mark Poirier. GOATS is currently in post-production.
In addition to his work as a film director and acting coach, Chris has directed commercials and specs for a range of global brands including Kraft, T-Mobile, Volkswagen, and Levi’s.
