James Frost is a highly acclaimed director who has worked with brands such as IBM, Pizza Hut, Comcast, Ford among others and artists such as Radiohead, Norah Jones, Coldplay, Ben Harper, Silversun Pickups, Interpol, Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, The White Stripes and Kylie Minogue, to name just a few.
A native Londoner who is now based in Los Angeles, Frost burst on to the scene in 2001 when he directed the Coldplay video Yellow which garnered major industry buzz and was named Music Video of the Year (Plug Independent Music Awards), Best Director of a New Artist (2001 MVPA Awards) and nominations for MTV and Brit Awards.
In 2006 Frost made his first foray into the commercial film world, shooting a very well received spot for Fordham University. He’s gone to create work for IBM, Pizza Hut, Publix, The Gap, Toshiba, AT&T, Diehard and Comcast. Frost has a passion for visual storytelling and continually seeks out new ways to create imagery through incorporating new technologies and experimentation.
His 2008 House of Cards video for Radiohead premiered on Google and received much critical acclaim including a live interview with Frost on CNN. House of Cards has been awarded at the D&AD, ADC, One Show and the Telly Awards and was nominated at the Grammy Awards, the UK Music Video Awards and the NME Awards. It’s also been showcased at the British Design Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sao Paulo and the Vienna Museum of Contemporary Art.
Although Frost has been directing for a number of years, his innovative work with Radiohead on House of Cards garnered him a position in the 2009 Saatchi & Saatchi New Director’s Showcase in Cannes. Frost has been honored by editorial coverage in a number of high-profile magazines including Shots, Boards, Creativity, Dazed and Confused, Contagious and Creative Review.
In 2010 James Frost collaborated with the rock band OK Go and engineering collective Syyn Labs to create a giant Rube Goldberg machine for a music video for the song This Too Shall Pass. It was released via YouTube on March 1st, 2010 and to date has been viewed over 24 million times. The video was awarded the prestigious AICP award and has entered MOMA’s permanent collection in New York. The video also went on to win Music Video of the Year at the UK Music Video Awards as well as Best Rock Video at the 2010 awards held in London, England.
In 2011 Frost partnered with Executive Producer John Benson to launch Honey Badger.
